Designing and planning the infrastructures of wireless internet service

Traditional services (Voice call and SMS) will still need more services in order to they can compete with the existing telecommunication company which has early introduce many telecommunication services. Wireless internet service is the next service they should provide once they want to gain more and more subscribers and maintain the loyalty. In addition, demands from subscribers to wireless internet service is increasing dramatically since 3G service was introduced about 3 years ago in Indonesia market. The thing they need to do is designing and planning the infrastructure of wireless internet network
Since wireless internet service is the new service, then there will be several network element need to be installed to the current one. What are they? In this case, I try to give a sample at the CDMA platform and they are;

1. Public Data Service Node (PDSN)

The simple word, it is the core of the wireless internet service. All transaction from subscribers will land to PDSN then will proceed to have internet traffic. All processes of wireless internet service must land to PDSN

2. Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) server
This is the device that will grant you to access the internet traffic at the firs time you make a dial up connection. It will identify you phone number, username and password

3. Charging system
Charging system will charge you how much money will be deducted to access the internet for a minute or per one KB

4. Firewall
This is security system to make sure that traffic from inside and outside can be identified. Firewall will be placed in the edge of the core network.

5. Data comm. network and
Data comm. Network will responsible to route the traffic from subscriber which may located long far away and perhaps at the different island in order to they can reach the internet traffic

6. Bandwidth
There two kinds of bandwidth they need to implement that are international bandwidth and bandwidth to connect to each area. International bandwidth will guarantee that subscribers will be able to access to world wide every time they want to access it. Meanwhile local bandwidth will make sure there will be no bottle neck issue to reach the internet gateway from subscribers end
More important things while they plan to have wireless internet service are how many PDSN they will deploy to cover all subscribers at all around regions, how they will charge the subscribers, bandwidth management to make sure that they have sufficient bandwidth, international bandwidth capacity etc.
